Kinect can read sign language?

Kinect the new motion camera for the Xbox 360 which is competing with the Nintendo Wii is stating that it will be able to recognise ASL(American Sign Language).  This according to a Kinect patent Microsoft filled recently. It will be able to input letters, words, and phases using the technology. Microsoft Kinect will be able to read lips, map toes, and watch you sleep...wow. Come from Atari to now I would have never believed this would be something where able to do in the gaming community.
